Six-week introduction to Aikido
Always wanted to try a martial art? Wondering what aikido is all about? Come experience the martial art of aikido in this 6-week exploratory series. Learn how a martial art can be non-violent and effective at the same time. We’ll cover the principles of position and movement, balance, falling and rolling, philosophy, and dojo culture and etiquette.
If you’ve ever had interest in knowing what traditional martial arts training is all about, this course breaks the mold of traditional classes to create an open forum for discussion, questions, and increased body awareness. The course meets once a week to scaffold the fundamentals of aikido and martial arts training in graduated, structured environment. The series can be a foundation for further training or simply an exploration of a new martial art (note: the program is not required for regular enrollment at Tacoma Aikikai).
This is our third year running the series, and our first time in-person following the Covid pandemic. Over the last year, we’ve learned how to adapt our training to be effective but safe for our community during the pandemic. We are thrilled to be able to open our doors to you.
