An introduction to self-defense for empowerment, this weekend workshop creates a safe space for women, trans, and non-binary communities. Explore the basics of awareness, assessment, and options for deflecting, diffusing, disengaging, or defending in a range of situations. The short course will include an overview of physical and psychological techniques, as well as an introduction to falling, boundary setting, situational awareness, effective strikes and deflection.
This stand-alone weekend workshop can serve as an introduction to our full 4-week self-defense course scheduled for February 2020.
Ea Murphy, Chief Instructor Tacoma Aikikai has over 20 years of martial arts experience. She has taught self-defense both on and off the mat, including with the Girl Army, a Bay Area Self-Defense collective.
