1. Visit

New and beginning students are welcome anytime. We recommend scheduling a free 30-minute private intro lesson to learn more about the dojo, meet the instructors, and get a few training basics. If that’s not an option, then join a free trial of one of our regularly scheduled classes. Wear loose clothing that covers the knees and elbows.

Prospective students are always welcome to drop by and watch a class during our normal class schedule.

Email or call Us with questions any time and stay in touch by signing up for our mailing list.

2. Register

Fill out your membership agreement and liability wavier at the dojo kiosk. Youth students choose their preferred 2 weekday class sessions by age group. Please let us know if you need sliding scale membership rates or family discounts so that we can update your membership profile.

Because learning a martial art takes time and investment, new students are asked to commit to three months of training upon initial registration. Uniforms are optional during this time but can be purchased in the dojo for $50-$55 + tax. We don’t have contracts, but we do ask that you communicate with us if you need to pause or cancel your membership.

3. Train

Get on the mat and train!

Kids andTeens can attend two preferred weekday class sessions and the Saturday all ages class. Teens can also join our Friday session and speak with us about joining adult classes. Beginning Adult Students can attend unlimited Beginner or All Levels classes. While there is no limit to how much you can train, we ask that you commit to a minimum of two days a week.

Your first few classes will focus on learning how to roll and fall safely. After you can fall, mixed level students generally train together in pairs to practice techniques, throws, and movement. Enjoy your practice!

Tacoma Aikikai is dedicated to sharing Aikido with the community. Sliding scale rates and scholarships are available. Please ask if you need it!

How Membership Works

Membership is easy. Monthly dues support the dojo and offer access to all program-specific classes (kids, teens, or adults).

Monthly membership payments are not payment for classes. Members dues, time, and energy on the mat all support the dojo community so that we can continue to train together. Payments and are due by the 10th of each month unless other arrangements are made. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Please contact us for sliding scale rates or scholarships.

Email us or stop by the dojo to watch your first and get started.
