Beginners Aikido Martial Arts Classes

Aikido for Beginners

Aikido is a dynamic martial art that exercises body and mind, improves flexibility and coordination, and promotes overall well-being, with practical applications for safe falling, self-defense, and non-violent conflict resolution. We are excited to share it with you!

People new to Aikido are always welcome at Tacoma Aikikai. Members of all levels train together and beginners are welcome in any class.

“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few.” – Shunryu Suzuki

Beginner’s Series

Twice a year, we also offer a six-week Beginner’s Series for a cohort of new and existing students that covers the foundation of training. The Beginner’s Series is not required for joining the dojo and both prospective and existing students can take it at any time.

Community Workshops

Our woman and non-binary student self-defense series, community workshops in safe falling or self-care, and annual open house events are other great ways to get to know the dojo community and experience training. Check out our community events page or sign up for our mailing list to get the latest news and events.
